Every year, a large number of students give up on their dreams of pursuing higher education due to financial constraints.

“The irony is that crores (tens of millions) of public and private scholarship funds go unused because of the lack of awareness among students who need scholarships,” says Manjeet Singh, who in 2016, along with Ashutosh Burnwal and Raj Kishor, launched Buddy4Study, an online platform that helps students find scholarships or grants matching their profile. “There’s also a lack of transparency and operational efficiency in disbursing scholarship funds. We found that this space had great scope for improvement.”

Buddy4Study uses AI to match scholarships and grants with deserving students and offers alerts/updates to their 2+ million users. They also help corporations, NGOs, government agencies, public sector undertakings, and individuals to design, launch, manage, and track their scholarship program. Additionally, the company has partnered with universities abroad to provide scholarship opportunities.

“As our target group primarily belongs to the 14-35 age group, we use the WhatsApp Business app to reach and communicate with them, since WhatsApp has almost become an essential app for this core audience. It makes the onboarding of new users easy and seamless,” says Manjeet.
